Kamehameha Summer Science Institute is held on the Kapälama Campus in Honolulu, Hawaiÿi. It provides KS students with an interest in science accelerated opportunites in biology and chemistry. Students choose from two strands--one focusing on the chemical properties of Hawaiian medicinal plants and marine organisms used in traditional Hawaiian healing, while the other focuses on DNA research. Students have an intensive hands-on experience in the latest laboratory techniques, do extensive research as well as field studies. Each student is expected to deliver a half-hour presentation and comprehensive written report about his/her chosen topic. ORGANIC CHEMISTRY Program: June 13 -

8 - July 27 (7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) *REGISTRATION* Kamehameha Summer Science Institute is open to current KS campus students completing grades 8-11. Interested students must submit an application, letter of recommendation, and essay to be considered. Applications are reviewed by the lead teachers teaching each strand. Twenty applicants are selected for the chemistry strand while another twelve students are invited to participate in the DNA research. Students in the Chemistry strand participate in a five-day field study on the island of Hawai`i.
