This
is Mrs. Wilcoxen's seventh year as a seventh grade English teacher at Kamehameha.
Prior to
working at Kamehameha Schools, Mrs. Wilcoxen taught at Farrington High School
for three years
and Kalaheo High School for one year.
Currently she teaches English for 92 students of the 109 on the 'Ohe team. Class
covers aspects in
of Language Arts while incorporating content area to team projects.
Curriculum Guide:
In grade seven English, students read short stories, novels, myths and plays
to learn about
narrative structure, story plot, conflict, character and theme. Students also
learn the forms and
language of poetry. They further develop reading skills by exposure to works
of fiction and nonfiction.
Writing focuses on descriptive, narrative, and expository, as well as creative
experiences. Literary
terms,word
study, vocabulary development, grammar and mechanics are also a part of the
seventh
grade course.
