ACT National High School Poster Contest Scholarship
- ACT wants to encourage students to tap into their creativity
and possibly qualify for a scholarship through the national ACT Poster
Concept Contest. Students can enter the contest by designing a poster
that encourages other students to attend college and to take the ACT
as their college entrance exam. The winning design concept will be used
to produce the 2010-2011 ACT test date information poster that is distributed
to high schools nationwide. The contest is open to juniors and seniors
who will be applying for the 2010 or 2011 admission to a two-year or
four-year college in the United States. Visit www.actstudent.org/postercontest

American Association
of University Women Educatonal Grants (AAUW) Windward Branch - The
grants are to be used for educational expenses at a regionally accredited,
post-secondary institution in the State of Hawaii. Grants are paid directly
to the institution after verification of acceptance of the recipient.
The grant is for study at the undergraduate level only, for use in the
year in which it is awarded. Aplicant must be: legal, Hawaii women residents
of Windward Oahu; enrolled in or accepted for admissions at a regionally
accredited post-secondary institution in the Stare of Hawaii; enrolled
at least half-time in a classified, degree program. Application

Asian and Pacific Islander
American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) - Every
year APIASF awards scholarships ranging between $2,500-$5,000 to over
200 first year college students. Minimum eligibility includes: be of
Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity; be a U. S. citizen; be enrolling
at an accredited college full time as a first year student; have a minimum
GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale; complete the FAFSA and submit one letter
of recommendation. The application must be completed online
at www.apiasf.org/scholarship. You can save your work as you
go. Do not wait until the last minute if you want to be considered.

Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Scholarships
at Chaminade University of Honolulu - Chaminade University,
as a Native Hawaiian Serving Institution, enjoys a special relationship
with the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. In recognition of its
partnership, Chaminade is offering this scholarship which is open to
members or dependents of active members of a Hawaiian Civic Club. This
award is renewable for up to three additional years. Students need to

Charles R. Kendall Scholarship & Education
Fund - To be eligible, applicants must be a dependent of
an HGEA member (whose membership has been in good standing for at least
one year from the application due date) and must attend a college, community
college or university or vocational, trade or other post high school
study on a full-time basis for the school year 2010-201l. Applicants
will be pooled into two groups- those attending a university or college
and those attending a community college or vocational, trade or other
post high school study. Four factors are used to evaluate the candidates:
financial need, academic ability, personal letter, three recommendations.

Department of Hawaiian
Home Lands Scholarship at Chaminade University of Honolulu -
In recognition of the partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home
Lands, Chaminade University is pleased to announce that it is offering
the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Scholarship to a new entering
day student that is a dependent of a current resident who holds a lease
to a Hawaiian Home Lands property. This award is renewable for up to
three additional years. Students need to complete the Chaminade University
Admission Application online at http://www.chaminade.edu/ug/ and the
Hawaiian Home Lands Nomination form which is available in the Haleakala
Counseling Center. Eligibility requirements for first year students

Gates Millennium Scholarship
- Approximately 120 Gates Millennium
Scholarships will be given this year to Asian Pacific Islanders across
the country, in addition to those who identify themselves as African
American, American Indian/Alaskan native or Hispanic American, for a
total of 1,000 Gates Scholars for 2010. Seanna Pieper-Jordan, KS 2008,
was one of eleven from Hawaii that year. There were two from Hawaii
in 2009. Criteria include: MINIMUM GPA of 3.3, outstanding
leadership and community service and EXTREME financial
hardship, including being Pell Grant eligible, as determined by the
FAFSA. Multiple essays are required by the student, in addition to nomination
and recommendation forms. Scholarship includes funding for undergraduate
and graduate work, and a mentoring component. Writing component is extensive,
so start early. Visit the website for more details. PREFERRED

Hawaii Community Foundation
Scholarships - Hawaii Community
Foundation is the second largest post-secondary scholarship provider
in Hawaii. Seniors are encouraged to visit www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org
and research over 100 different scholarships that are available. Search
by major, ethnicity, etc. Research now! The online application will
open at 8:00 a.m. (Hawaii Standard Time) on Monday, December 14, 2009
and will close at 5:00 p.m. (HST) on Monday, March 1, 2010. Application
and Supporting Materials Deadline: Postmarked or hand delivered on Monday,
March 1, 2010.
Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation
Scholarship - These scholarships
are sponsored by the various Rotary Clubs in Hawaii. Interested students
will need to contact the nearest Rotary Club where they live or in their
school area to request sponsorship and the address where to mail the
application. These highly competitive scholarships are based on academics,
community service and financial need. Kamehameha does very well in this
statewide competition, where approximately 70 scholarships are given
annually. Last year's state winners were Kristy Alama, Wally Calistro
and Carolynn Kitamura. Applications are available in the Haleakala Counseling
Center with the contact information for sponsoring clubs and also on
the website at www.hryf-d500.org. Application
Deadline: The ENTIRE application, including transcript, recommendations,
essay and picture MUST BE RECEIVED by the sponsoring Rotary Club no

Honolulu Filipino Junior
Chamber of Commerce Scholarship - This
scholarship is open to all graduating high school seniors with a minimum
GPA of 3.00. Judging criteria is based on financial need, personal statement,
essay, two letters of recommendation. Application is available in the
Haleakala Counseling Center. Application
Deadline: December 18, 2009. Must be received in office.
KFC Colonel's Scholars
- KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking
for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit
to qualify for the program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees,
textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors
must: earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75; enroll in a
public college or university within their state of legal residence;
plan to pursue a bachelor's degree; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
demonstrate financial need. The online scholarship application will
be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at www.kfcscholars.org.

Marist College National
Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarship - The Marist College
NSF Scholarship is being offered to academically talented students who
wish to major in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems.
Scholarship recipients will receive a full 4-year tuition, room and
board scholarship at Marist College. If you are eligible and interested
in this opportunity, apply today. Marist's online application for admission

the box labeled "National Science Foundation Scholarship Program").
Admission applicants should apply as early

100th Infantry Battalion
Legacy Scholarship - This
scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student, who is recognized
not only for excellence in academics and community service, but also
for his/her pursuit in promoting the legacy of the 100th Infantry Battalion
so that others will value freedom, loyalty and patriotism. To qualify
for this scholarship, an applicant must be a graduating, high school
senior from the state of Hawaii who will attend an institution of higher

Prince Kuhio Hawaiian
Civic Club Scholarship - Eligibility
requirements: be of Hawaiian ancestry; college-bound high school students;
cumulative GPA of 2.5; demonstrate academic and leadership potential.
If awarded a PKHCC scholarship, applicants are expected to embrace the
PKHCC mission of community service, leadership, participation, and perpetuating
the Hawaiian culture. Scholarship recipients are expected to commit
to volunteer work in their community, whether in Hawaii or away at a

Soroptimist Youth Citizenship
Awards - These awards are
given in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by young
people to home, school, community, country and the world. They are not
scholarships but cash "awards of merit" to be used at the
discretion of the recipient in any manner that will best further his/her
aims and purposes. The cash award is given in a single payment to each
winner. To be eligible, the applicant must be graduating during the
current school year. To qualify for the award, which is judged on the
citizenship and merit of the applicant, a student must have demonstrated
the following during the high school years: service, dependability,

Southern Methodist University Hunt Leadership
Scholarship - Eligibility requirements: demonstrated extraordinary

SAT 1230 on Math and Critical Reading or ACT 28; completion of a strong
college preparatory curriculum, typically including AP courses, honors

Sullivan Leadership Award
- This is a four-year scholarship
equal to full tuition, room and meals for each of four years of undergraduate
study at Seattle University. Recipients are selected on the basis of
commitment to Service and Leadership, Academic Rigor, Community, Spirituality
and Global Awareness. Along with your application, candidates must submit
a leadership resume, a leadership essay and two letters of recommendation.

Hilo Chancellor's Scholarship - This is a four-year tuition
scholarship. Eligibility criteria: top 10% of your graduating class

maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA; earn 24 credits per year; enroll as
a full-time student; participate in leadership activities and/or community
service with other Chancellor's Scholars; maintain continuous enrollment;

Manoa Scholarships - UH Manoa scholarships are now available
online through a Smart web application at www.star.hawaii.edu and click
on "scholarships". Seniors interested in attending UH Manoa
are strongly encouraged to check out this website where they can search
for scholarships based on specific colleges, major, GPA, etc. Apply
online and track the processing. Currently UH Manoa has approximately
6 million in scholarships from private donors as well as 18 million
from the university itself. Check it out! Application

University of Hawaii Regents Scholarship -
Scholarship applications are now open and available online at www.hawaii.edu/raps.
These competitive scholarships are open to Hawaii's best and brightest
and include full tuition, $4,000 a year stipend and one-time $2,000
travel grant. Available to students attending any UH system campus.
MINIMUM cumulative GPA and test scores are 3.5 and 1950 combined on

The Patricia Grodd Poetry
Prize for Young Writers - Are you a high school sophomore
or junior? Do you love to write poetry? Then you need to enter the 7th
Annual Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize for Young Writers contest presented
by The Kenyon Review. The winner and two runners-up will see
their poems published in The Kenyon Review, one of the country's
most famous literary magazines. In addition, the winner will also receive

in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA is the federal application required by most colleges, universities

your parents complete this essential form to get financial aid for college.
Bring your 2009 IRS Tax Return (and your parent's return if under 24)
plus your W-2 Form or other 2009 income and benefits information. Your

College Horizons 2010 -
College Horizons is excited to kick-off their fall recruitment
season and invite current 10th and 11th grade American Indian, Alaska
Native, and Native Hawaiian students to apply to their CH 2010 summer
programs. This is a pre-college program where 90 students work with
60 college admissions officers, college counselors, essay specialists,
and other educators in a five day "crash course" on the college
application process. This summer, College Horizons will offer three
programs which will be hosted by the: University of Hawaii Hilo (Hilo,
HI) - June 12-16; Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) - June 26-30; University
of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA) - June 26-30. The eligibility information
and application materials are available on-line at www.collegehorizons.org.
The deadline to apply is February 1, 2010 (1st round), February 26 (2nd
round), and applications might be accepted until May 1 if space is available.
Financial aid is available for tuition and airfare to students who qualify.

Aid at California State University, San Marcos and Nationally Recognized
Authority on Financial Aid, will walk you through line-by-line the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the form required by all
colleges to be considered for money. Also find out about the process
for accessing Kamehameha's post high financial aid. An information evening
you won't want to miss out on!

see Mrs. Cabanilla to set up an appointment to meet with your college
counselor Mrs. Kathryn Kekaulike if your last name begins with A-Ka
or Mrs. Amy Sato if your last name begins with Ke-Z. Why? To touch base
about where you are in your college search process and to make sure
that all of your questions are answered and that you have a plan for
