Welcome to the Kamehameha High School-Kapalama Visual Arts Department
The development of visually literate and aesthetically aware students who are able to function as producers, appreciators and consumers of art, is the goal of the Visual Arts Program. This capacity to make informed judgments in art will enhance the quality of their lives. The high school program provides a rich experience of the world of art through a solid foundation in studio art production, art history, art criticism and aesthetics. Art History, Theory and Practice, a one semester course which is a graduation requirement, is the prerequisite for the department’s elective courses. (See COURSES for a description and list of all course offerings.) The quality of the Visual Arts Program has been recognized at the local and national levels. Our students have received numerous awards in competitions which include the Scholastics Arts Contest and Congressional Arts Competition. In addition, students are able to showcase their talent and product in the annual Student Art Exhibition. Please browse our website with its various galleries, and plan revisits to enjoy future additions and updates. - Don Harvey, Visual Arts Department Head
