Room 304's
School to Home communication
Holiday on Monday September 4th- No School
School resumes on Tuesday, September 5th.
Wonderful First Weeks- Freedoms
The students in Room 304 have had a great beginning. We worked on procedures
and schedules and appropriate behavior. The students have gotten familiar
with Mrs. Fushikoshi’s style of teaching and now are more familiar with the
high expectations for this class. The big words for this week have been TRUST
and FREEDOM. The students will soon understand that many freedoms will be given
to them because Mrs. Fushikoshi’s trusts her students. But freedoms can
be taken away if students do not treattheir freedoms responsibly.
We have created RULES FOR LIFE and CONSEQUENCES. Students will bring home
a copy next week. The students understand that these rules will help them
throughout
their lives, no matter where they are, no matter how old they are. These
are not only school rules. We are preparing these students for life. Thank
you
very
much for your support.
Visiting Teacher From Japan
We have been so fortunate to have Mayuko Tamura, a visiting third grade
teacher from Gunma Prefecture in Japan, as our guest for two days. You
would be so
proud of your child. All students in Room 304 treated this visitor as a
gift. We were
the only class to host this teacher for this teacher exchange. We were
given a personal letter from Dr. Chun commending the students for making
this a
truly memorable experience for Ms. Tamura and this exchange a huge success.
Goal Setting
Goal setting is very important in this class. Thank you for assisting with
homework procedures and thank you for supporting your child with his/her
weekly goals.
New Schedules
Look for a copy of our new schedule. There has been a slight change to
our schedule. We are moving Health from Day 3 to Day 6. The rest of
the schedule
remains the
same.
Math -Graphs
In Math we are continuing our daily Calendar Math and working with
graphs. Thank you for your helpful input regarding the use and importance
of
graphs. We are
looking at the parts of graphs and types of graphs which match their
purposes.

August 15, 2006
Here are some news items and some reminders
regarding Room 304.
Room 304's School to Home communication
The first day was great! Everyone in Room 304 tried their best and acted
with
kindness. Ask your child about:
1. Community Circle
2. Trust- Freedoms
3. Treasure Hunt- Cooperation
4. The Spyglass
Hope you find out about our first day!
Weekly Assignment Sheets
Thank you for your assistance with our assignment sheets. The students copy down
the night's homework. Daily homework includes reading for 15 minutes and then
recording the number of pages read. Also students are to write a short response
to their reading.
Responses are connections they make between what they've read and their own lives
or any reactions or comparisons they observe. I realize this is a new system
for everyone.
Everyone has been adjusting. May I have parents' assistance on the assignment
sheets? Could you please check that the assignments that are due are complete,
the quality is up to the level that your child can accomplish and work is done
neatly? Please ask your child to proof read his/her work. The child should make
changes if necessary.
Every Monday through Thursday evening, please initial that you have seen the
assignments that have been given and acknowledge that it is complete if due the
next day. The Yellow assignment sheet must be placed back into the Kamehameha
homework folder. You may write any question or comment in the column to the right.
I will also use this space to briefly communicate with you.
The Assignment sheets must be brought back to school the next day. This is part
of your child's kuleana. Please make sure the homework and homework folders are
in backpacks the night before to avoid forgetting them. I check the assignment
sheets everyday and hand them back for your child to write his/her homework.
On Fridays the students will tally the total number of pages read and reflect
upon the week's events and learning. They will also set goals for the next week.
I look them over and add comments and will return them to parents on Monday.
You will have until Wednesday to respond if interested and return them. Your
child will file them in a folder. I hope this helps make this complicated, but
important, procedure clear.
Please feel free to call me, or send a note if you have any questions. Thank
you
