CLASSROOM
GUIDELINES
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Have all your basic supplies with you everyday (team binder, student assignment book, folder paper, blue/black pen and/or pencil).
- Have your homework completed and with you in class on the day it is due.
- Do all your work neatly and to the best of your ability. Neatness counts!
- Upon entering the class, check the board for the agenda, things to take out and the homework assignment.
- All work should be done in either blue or black pen or be typed and should have the proper heading (first & last names, date, section) in the upper right corner. Assignments turned in without a name will result in a 10% grade drop.
- Anything to be turned in to me must be placed in your section’s “IN” tray.
- Homework: Due at the start of class. Frequency and amount varies depending upon the lab. Any homework that needs to be printed should be printed prior to coming to class. Printing will not be allowed once the bell has rung to start class.
- Extra help: I am available almost every day before and after school for extra help. You must take the initiative to come see me and I will be more than willing to help you one-on-one.

DETERMINATION OF GRADE: In science, everything is graded on a point system. My grading scale for homework and lab reports ranges from 100-40%. Any homework/lab report that is done completely will receive a minimum score of a 50%. Late work must be turned in within 5 school days to get a 50%. Work that is not turned in at all will receive a 40% (equivalent to a zero). The grading scale for quizzes is the standard 100-0%. The breakdown of your final grade for each quarter is as such:
Quizzes/Lab Reports = (50%)
Homework = (25%)
COP = (25%) |

COP SYSTEM:
COP stands for cooperation, organization, and participation. The
purpose of the COP point system is to hold the student accountable
for their behavior in class. Each day students start off with
5 points.
- 1 pt. = sitting in seat when bell rings
- 1 pt. = all supplies out (as stated on the
board)
- 3 pts. = on task, with no violation during
class
*A violation occurs when a class rule
has been broken. Examples of violations are talking out of
turn, not on
task, bothering other people, untucked shirt, no belt, leaning
back on chair, etc. For every violation, you lose 1 point, up
to 3 points. If you have more than 3 violations in one day,
you will be given additional homework to be turned in the
next day. If the extra work is not done, you receive detention.
Bonus points can also be earned for such
things as positive contributions, winning quiz games, helping
others, or exceptional behavior.

LATE HOMEWORK POLICY: All work to be graded is due at the start of class on the due date. If you do not have your work with you, your grade will be lowered as such:
- Work turned in by the end of 8th period on the due date will result in a 5% grade drop.
- After the due date, each school day the work is late will result in a 10% grade drop up to 5 days late. Weekends count as 1 day. Odd/Even days count as separate days; even if I don’t see you everyday, if you are in school, you are able to hand in your work. Anything turned in after 5 days will result in a 40%.
- The exception to this is for excused absences. The number of days absent equals the number of days extension for missed work. It is the student's responsibility to find out missed work.
- All late work must have the time/date stamp to verify when it was turned in

GRADE CHECKS: Your science grade will be posted online and is password protected. Grades will be updated periodically, but not on a daily basis. You and your parents may check your grade from any computer that has Internet access. It will be your responsibility to be aware of your grade.
In addition to the online grades, a detailed progress report will be issued at the 3-week and 6-week intervals of each quarter. Report cards are issued at the end of each 9-week quarter.
