Ke Ali`i Pauahi Foundation announces new Executive Director

Beginning December 1, Lynn Maunakea will assume her role as KAPF’s executive director, leading the charitable support organization into a new chapter of extending its reach to support educational opportunities for thousands of Hawaiian learners statewide.

Lynn Maunakea will join KAPF as their new Executive Director on Dec. 1.

Maunakea is currently the executive director of IHS, Oahu's emergency homeless shelter, a position she has held for over eight years. Originally from upstate New York, she moved to Hawai`i in 1977 to attend the University of Hawai`i at Manoa where she earned a Masters Degree in Social Work.

Maunakea brings to the Foundation a combination of skills derived from her management experience in the public and non-profit sectors. Prior to leading IHS, she managed a Grant and Loan Program for the Hawai`i Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. On Hawai`i Island where she resided for 14 years, she served as the Director of Research and Development for Hawai`i County. Prior to that, Maunakea was the Executive Director of the Hilo Association for Retarded Citizens.

"As the Advertiser stated recently, Lynn has contributed greatly to our community by serving our growing number of homeless families, said CEO Dee Jay Mailer. "She stated in that article that many were of Hawaiian ancestry and that education is the key out of such situations. What better place for Lynn to continue her lifelong efforts than Kamehameha Schools, and we agree with her."
