Joseph O. Carter, Esq.
Honolulu,
T. H.
My dear Mr. Carter:
I
received your letter of the 20th of December, which is a long time ago,
but I hope that you will be rather pleased that I do not trouble you
very often now days with letters, knowing that it is prudent for you
to avoid writing as much as possible in reply. I too am avoiding
writing myself for the reason that when I do read or write much I suffer
for it by pain in my eyes and head, so I have taken more to the type-writing
than I used to.
Mr.
Damon has written me that Judge Dole feels that it would be inconsistent
for him to act for the Estate or Museum in matters which might require
judicial action by himself, and hence that he must resign his Trustee-ship
of the Museum, for which I am sorry. The question is now who will take
his place. I have written to Mr. Damon on that subject, and he will,
of course, advise you. From the reports which I get I judge that everything
is going on satisfactorily with the Schools and other
Trusts.
I
have been hoping to see Mr. Horne, whom I am advised is going East,
but in his hurry to get on, he may have passed without calling on me.
Do
the best you can.
If
you see Dr. Hyde, say to him that I have received his letter, and will
write to him by the 'Australia" and the same to Mr. Brigham.
Hoping
that you and your family and neighbors may escape all sickness, I remain,
Very
truly yours,
/s/
Chas. R. Bishop
